Meet Jil Flodstrom

I’ve been in Colorado for seven years, although I’ve wanted to live here since I first came to ski in the Rockies at age 16. Being in the outdoors and especially the mountains has always appealed to me because of the beauty, majesty, and solitude. It’s difficult to pick a favorite activity but it’s probably a tie between cross-country skiing and mountain biking. I love the aerobic exercise and ability to share the activity with my dogs and friends are some of the aspects that appeal to me most!

Meet Caitlin Treat (Rolfs)

When she’s not taking pictures or helping hikers and skiers at the shop, you can find Caitlin out on the trail with her boyfriend, Luke, and their crazy dog, Easton. Caitlin loves skiing uphill in the winter (but mostly for the downhill) and riding her mountain bike in the summer.

Meet David Weinzimmer

What he lacks in knowledge about women’s skorts and platform sandals, he makes up for in enthusiasm about lightweight gear and trip planning. When he’s not skiing uphill or biking down, come find him in the map section and tell him about your next adventure.

Meet Diana Porter

Along with her husband Nate, is co-owner of Salida Mountain Sports. She moved to Colorado from New Hampshire in 1991 to be a ski bum and never left. A book keeper by trade, Diana keeps things running behind the scenes at Salida Mountain Sports. When she’s not crunching numbers or busy being a mother, Diana likes to hike, bike and ski. She also enjoys cooking, travelling and spending time with her family. She can often be seen around town with her shadow, aka Truffle the Chocolate Lab.

Meet Nate Porter

Along with his wife Diana, is co-owner of Salida Mountain Sports. They opened the shop in May 2007, after moving to Salida in 2000. Nate has been in the outdoor industry since 1990, wearing many hats, from ski tech to manager and buyer, and finally store owner. Nate is a Masterfit University certified ski boot fitter, who enjoys helping people turn ski boots from torture devices into something closer to bedroom slippers. When he’s not working, he can be found biking and hiking the many fine trails around Salida, or putting in the skin track for another deep back country ski run. He also enjoys spending time with his family, reading and travelling.

His top gear pick is the Contour Hybrid Mix Skins. They have a fast gliding, good climbing plush that is very hydrophobic. The glue is super easy to pull apart when the skins are folded up, and comes off the ski easily. If you struggle with you current skin glue, give the Contours a try!
