110 N F Street, downtown Salida, a block from the river. Maps, guidebooks, local beta and the gear on this page.
When it's good
Salida runs warmer and drier than most mountain towns, which is why locals ride and climb here in January. Up high it's a different story: snow can linger on Monarch Crest into July and the first storms usually hit in October.

What is there to do in Salida in the winter?
Ski and ride at Monarch Mountain, tour Monarch and Marshall passes, snowshoe Old Monarch Pass, soak at the hot springs, and hike, run, ride and climb on the low, sunny trails near town.
What is there to do in Salida in the summer?
Raft Browns Canyon, tube the whitewater park, ride the Monarch Crest, climb a fourteener, fish Gold Medal water and hike right from downtown.
What should I do about altitude sickness?
Take a day or two to acclimate before big efforts, drink plenty of water, and limit alcohol. Headaches and nausea are common. Confusion or trouble breathing is an emergency, so go down and call 911.
What is a CORSAR card?
A $3 a year card that funds search and rescue teams in Colorado. It isn't insurance and doesn't cover a medical flight, but it's worth carrying.
Where can I check river flows, snow and road conditions?
The live conditions panel at the top of this page pulls river flows from Colorado DWR, snow from the Porphyry Creek SNOTEL near Monarch Pass and forecasts from the National Weather Service. For roads, use COtrip.
