Ortovox Beast Shovel

The Ortovox Beast is a light, all-round avalanche shovel with a big scoop and a packable blade shape. It is an easy first shovel and a solid everyday shovel for anyone who tours a lot.

Why We Carry It

Good shovels do not need to be expensive. The Beast gives you a stiff blade, a telescoping shaft and a grip that works with either hand, at a price that makes it easy to put a real shovel in every pack.

Highlights

• Rigid blade: High sidewalls and a pronounced center ridge keep the anodized 5052 aluminum blade from flexing in hard debris.
• Hybrid grip: Switches between left and right handed use.
• Telescoping handle: Oval cross section for a secure twist-free grip, collapses for the pack.
• Protected cutting edge: Sharp enough to cut blocks, protected so it does not chew up your pack.
• Step grooves: Non-slip grooves let you drive the blade with your boot.

Best For

New backcountry travelers building their first beacon, shovel and probe kit, and anyone who wants a dependable shovel for sidecountry days at Monarch.
