Ortovox Pro Guide Shovel

The Ortovox Pro Guide is a compact, full-size aluminum avalanche shovel built for long tours where pack space matters and digging speed matters more. It packs small, extends to a real working length, and moves a lot of snow per stroke.

Why We Carry It

This is the shovel our staff reach for on multi-day tours. It is light enough to forget about in the pack and stout enough to cut through avalanche debris or a hard wind slab when you are digging a pit.

Highlights

• Telescoping oval shaft: Slides out for leverage and collapses short for the pack, with a slide-in guide so it assembles fast with gloves on.
• T-grip handle: Works for left and right handed diggers and gives a solid pull on heavy snow.
• 90 degree clearing mode: Easy Plug lets the blade lock at 90 degrees so you can hoe snow out of a hole instead of lifting it.
• Stiff blade: High sidewalls and stability ribs on hardened 6061 T6 aluminum, with a sharp edge that is good for snow profiles and emergency shelters.
• Rescue sled ready: The blade can be built into a rescue sled with skis and straps.
• UIAA 156 certified: Meets the avalanche shovel standard.

Best For

Backcountry skiers and splitboarders touring the Sawatch and the Monarch Pass zones who want a compact shovel that digs like a big one.
