Salida's trails don't shut down when it gets cold. Here's how to layer, what traction to use, and how to keep running through winter in the Arkansas Valley.
We're in Switchback
Switchback wrote about how we took over the shop from Nate and Diana Porter, kept the crew together and started making it our own.
How we got here
Amelia Arvesen at Switchback wrote a story about the shop, and it just went live. It's called "Salida Mountain Sports Was Looking for New Owners. These Millennials Stepped Up." We'll take it.
She wrote about how we came to buy the shop from Nate and Diana Porter in May 2025 after they'd run it for 18 years, and why we kept the whole crew together. Nate is still here fitting boots, and he's the reason a lot of you have happy feet.
She also covers what's changed since: new brands, Nyce Kayaks for paddling season, a redesigned website, and staff bringing in gear for the sports they actually do. Austin put it this way: "Everyone on staff kind of brings their own sport to the shop."
If you've been to Thursday run club, rented skis for Monarch or just come in to ask about a trail, you're a big part of this story too. Thank you for showing up for a local shop.
