Black Crows Navis Freebird Touring Ski 2027

Black Crows Navis Freebird Touring Ski

The fourth generation of Black Crows' most iconic backcountry ski, built for touring skiers who are in it for the descents. The Navis Freebird's 104mm waist, 21-meter radius, and firm progressive flex combine genuine powder float and hard pack grip with the maneuverability and lightness that long days in the mountains demand.

Why We Carry It
It's the touring ski we recommend for strong alpine skiers transitioning into the backcountry who want a ski that rewards aggressive technique on the descent without asking them to give up performance for the sake of going lighter.

Highlights

• 104mm waist width for versatile float and edge control — Wide enough for meaningful powder float in Colorado's variable snowpack and narrow enough for confident edge engagement on firm morning snow and hard pack without feeling cumbersome on the skin track.
• 21-meter turning radius with slightly straight sidecut — A longer, more aggressive radius that encourages committed, attacking turns in open terrain rather than quick short turns. Built for skiers who want to let loose in wide open backcountry spaces and link powerful arcs on sustained pitches.
• Progressive front rocker with early-rise tail — Rocker in the tip for effortless float and turn initiation in variable and soft snow, with an early-rise tail that secures support and facilitates pivoting in tight terrain without the tail catching in heavy snow.
• Classic medium camber underfoot — A balanced camber profile that delivers a great middle ground between stability and handling for touring skiers who ski everything from groomed skin tracks to untracked steeps on the same day.
• Firm flex with progressive tip — Stability and precision underfoot for confident skiing at speed with a softer progressive tip that absorbs chatter and variable snow without transmitting every bump directly to the skier on long descents.
• Titanal reinforcement plate under the bindings — A metal plate that improves screw retention for long-term binding security through seasons of hard touring use without the binding interface loosening over time.
• 1,425-gram weight — A competitive weight for a 104mm freeride touring ski with Titanal reinforcement and a firm flex profile. Light enough for efficient touring and substantial enough for the downhill performance the Navis Freebird is known for.
• Wide size range from 165 to 186cm — Four lengths that cover most skier heights and preferences with a consistent 21-meter radius for a predictable, attacking feel across the lineup.
• Mounting point at -9cm — A setback mounting position that optimizes float in powder and tail drive for powerful turns without remounting for different conditions.

Best For

Strong alpine and freeride skiers moving into backcountry touring who want a high-performance 104mm touring ski that rewards aggressive, committed skiing on the descent for Colorado's variable snowpack, big mountain terrain, and full-day objectives where the descent matters as much as the ascent.

Compatibility Note

Not compatible with telemark bindings. Titanal plate under the bindings for improved screw retention. Recommended drill diameter 4.1mm x 9mm length.
